Perched high on a mountain spur overlooking lawns, gardens and verdant green tea fields Eagle Rock is a working estate producing tea, coffee, cinnamon and pepper, along with a wide variety of other fruits and spices. The estate descends from a much larger tea estate carved from the valley more than 100 years ago by a prominent Tamil family and has been producing quality Uva tea ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Eagle Rock Bungalow was built as a home with lawns, gardens and pool falling away to views of Namunukula to the east, Lipton Seat to the west and Ella Rock and Ella Gap to the north. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The broad lawn and stone-paved pool terrace overlooking the valley are perfect for relaxing. Exotic birds, wild peacocks, monkeys and giant squirrels frequent the trees and lawns while seasonal butterflies and fireflies put on their own show as clouds float back and forth down below in the valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The staff at Eagle Rock is the core of the Eagle Rock experience. They are all locals who embody the iconic Sri Lankan \u201cLand of Smiles\u201d archetype. They are warm, friendly, helpful, and genuine to a fault. With varying levels of English, they are always happy to interact with guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accommodation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Eagle Rock Estate has only six colonial-style guest rooms, which facilitates personal service and comfort. The main bungalow features four rooms, two with double beds and two with twin beds (which can be set up as very comfortable doubles). Each room has an ensuite bathroom and its own chair(s) or sofa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All bungalow rooms open onto a large raised open verandah with tables, chairs, and relaxing plantation chairs for views across lawns and gardens down to the valley and mountains beyond. The main bungalow also has a spacious communal living room area with multiple sofas and chairs, as well as a large stone fireplace for cozy times on cold winter evenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detached from the bungalow, but connected by stone walkways, we offer two deluxe stone cottages. They are nestled into the tea fields adjacent to the main bungalow, providing a rustic, romantic alternative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kos and Kithul cottages offer large rooms containing double bed, full-sized sleeper sofa, and table with four chairs. Each has an ensuite bathroom and its own smaller verandah with relaxing chairs looking out over the valley. Guests can request meals to be served at cottage, either inside or outside on verandah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dining<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our talented young chef Aruna was born and raised in the local Ambadandegama village and attended Bandarawela Hotel School.\u00a0 He has a deep background in local cuisine as well as a broad repertoire of international favorites. His curiosity about foods, creativity and confidence in the kitchen never ceases to surprise and impress guests. The main dining room has a large communal table and can also accommodate smaller tables on the verandah for more intimate dining. Meals can also be taken in the cottages.
